I still can’t believe that when I’m just going to bed, my family and friends are just waking up and going to work, a world away.

And in about 15 days (more or less, not allowed to say) I’m gonna be EVEN FURTHER from all of them. For a full year.

But that’s my job. It’s not all that glorified bullshit that civilians make it out to be. It’s not “fighting for your country” or “serving your country.” It’s a fucking JOB. Someone has to do it, right? I’m going over there to do what I’ve been training for 10 months to do. Nothing less, nothing more.

As much as I wish I could be back home with my family, my friends, and my girl (especially), I could not be happier than I am getting deployed with people who I will consider to be my BROTHERS ‘til the end of time. These guys are MEN…no matter their age or their rank…they are full on fuckin’ MEN. Men that I have made personal promises to in case anything happens to any one of us and they/I cannot return. Men that I would take bullet for, anytime, without a split second to think.

Besides all the bullshit that the Marine Corps provides, it has already made me a better man. I can’t wait to see how people react to who I have become when I get back.

I miss you all, and though maybe one or two of you will see this, I love you. I leave in a couple days, can’t tell you where I’m going, but if you know, you know. I will miss you, and if I don’t see you around this time next year, I’ll be there to greet you and guard the streets on the other side.

Life is much too short, do what you love and take care of yourselves as my brothers will take care of me. And I, them.
